I just found out about the <a href="http://www.amyscreativeside.com/2016/09/19/bloggers-quilt-festival-fall-2016-edition/" target="_blank">Bloger's Quilt Festival</a> on Facebook and was excited to see that I could still enter my mini quilt in the contest. This cute quilt was inspired by the many mermaids that I have been making and thought it would be a great idea to make a mermaid into a quilt. It has both hand stitching and machine quilting. Thank you for visiting my blog and thank you for hosting the festival Amy!!</div>

There are a lot of talented designers out there and I found a couple that I really like for my new adventures.<br />
<a href="http://swoonpatterns.com/" target="_blank">Swoon Patterns</a> is one of my favorites, her designs are elegant and beautiful, I tried a free pattern from her website and been eyeing a lot more but need to get all my things in order before I can try the bigger ones.<br />
<a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/bluecallapatterns" target="_blank">Blue Calla Creations</a> is another great one and I have actually worked on one pattern more than once. I have actually gotten two orders that I hope to complete tomorrow and send them on their way.<br />
Here is a few pics of what I have done,<br />
This is the Clematis Wristlet, it is super cute and it has tons of possibilities for my few next wristlets.<br />

I was scrolling through Facebook and she saw it and begged for weeks. We finally went shopping for the material back then and I was so busy with work that never got around to do it. I have been living with the guilt ever since. Every time I go in the office and saw it there it made me feel bad. Recently there was a pattern test call for a mermaid tail and I wasn't picked but figured out a way to do it. So tonight the inspiration came to me and I did it. There is room for improvement but she loves her pink mermaid tail.<br />
It makes me happy to see her happy. <br />
Now here is my tutorial in case you want to make your little one happy.<br />
<br />
First start by tracing your little one's body shape and don't forget to give it a a little extra room to wiggle. I also made the tail shape out of paper and then cut it out of fleece. I had a blanket kit that we got at either Walmart or Joanns for really cheap.<br />
You need two of each piece to have your front and back. Once you cut the fins, with right sides together you need to sew around the fin but leave an opening of about 6 inches to turn it inside out later.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihdWy8xbtJl7ZA38w1LiboZ727VnmSbBj9Rvu_vFQs1CyF3zH-WcfwwPHUyov46cHRHgDatx4KPwQk5IwQ1rAjUmcN50fqL49BYtuAicA-0JKZ5pf0YRiX39Bxn7FdsR4prbJGGKBOj0LN/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150153.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEihdWy8xbtJl7ZA38w1LiboZ727VnmSbBj9Rvu_vFQs1CyF3zH-WcfwwPHUyov46cHRHgDatx4KPwQk5IwQ1rAjUmcN50fqL49BYtuAicA-0JKZ5pf0YRiX39Bxn7FdsR4prbJGGKBOj0LN/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150153.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
I always pin because fabric shifts around.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxGoP7JnhpFib69TE545nYUSKm3CFRByB4nitEhGUEdAiBoXrgkipXYh1uRpQrYcJv2D9p47YBkbxmxVQiVeMwdiAEiMy-ilGa77PbbP39otzefW5fi8yZdR52FhAGSelGSYtiYHfdFClE/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150137.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgxGoP7JnhpFib69TE545nYUSKm3CFRByB4nitEhGUEdAiBoXrgkipXYh1uRpQrYcJv2D9p47YBkbxmxVQiVeMwdiAEiMy-ilGa77PbbP39otzefW5fi8yZdR52FhAGSelGSYtiYHfdFClE/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150137.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Then I just proceeded to sew about an inch away from the edge. Once you are done sewing the fin clip all curves so you get a nice shape.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbiM_gtY3Xdau6TxhNU3BM7PtDbGajFegay3LL4b9QKRVkIrEGjfY_iw5dnx4nDEu_YmfPrplpwZRnA8ei_YqYaVnKvKkvpf0n2UBFCuMbls6pUL2Kw9MEOc7tVJ-I5yOVlELRmWjZzs_s/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150118.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjbiM_gtY3Xdau6TxhNU3BM7PtDbGajFegay3LL4b9QKRVkIrEGjfY_iw5dnx4nDEu_YmfPrplpwZRnA8ei_YqYaVnKvKkvpf0n2UBFCuMbls6pUL2Kw9MEOc7tVJ-I5yOVlELRmWjZzs_s/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150118.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
When you are done just turn it inside out and you should be able to push the corners with a pencil. Then top stitch around the fin and you should have something that looks like the picture below.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQN83ivjBo8uMrlFyp3McQZRaEBtUEFz6-3uTTPXL2cbN2Rfc9IVA7EN_P7eqwKT13_LWyDykDAjzROPIUlOVFQ5q0DHD1PpDBx_7Oc5n6bM4-Jc6h9kN3Xkalf28v-m_QDJLdKMBihU6o/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150058.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQN83ivjBo8uMrlFyp3McQZRaEBtUEFz6-3uTTPXL2cbN2Rfc9IVA7EN_P7eqwKT13_LWyDykDAjzROPIUlOVFQ5q0DHD1PpDBx_7Oc5n6bM4-Jc6h9kN3Xkalf28v-m_QDJLdKMBihU6o/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150058.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
For the next step I simply decided to space out about an inch or so in between each row. It doesn't have to be perfect at all, I think it looks pretty good.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpP9Y4bz48emUuPzUY8RLfDM1xylFuyLlXcl9yhMXSY8PCaW4wPnwhVHuYXaS75NPzkfXsrzHFTsyOTg9Z3JrkbqMuIp6rbyyYOAKRgTAqInG8ijqiujTc0eZ3WAXYmjBk0o19aapz4YgX/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150044.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgpP9Y4bz48emUuPzUY8RLfDM1xylFuyLlXcl9yhMXSY8PCaW4wPnwhVHuYXaS75NPzkfXsrzHFTsyOTg9Z3JrkbqMuIp6rbyyYOAKRgTAqInG8ijqiujTc0eZ3WAXYmjBk0o19aapz4YgX/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150044.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Now for the main body of the mermaid tail we place our paper pattern piece on top of the fabric and cut it out. My picture is upside down I know but you get the idea. I didn't cut it the way I had planned, the stretch of the fabric ended up going from top to bottom instead of side to side. It makes it easier for the little ones to get in and out.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRjZmaaQW5KKxYFuDQnZB_0JIqvboHieO4aTy4fFy5Y6Qu2CHGvfSDkXkqKWokcm9WpQv6TiIiQ9PwudAt2Jc2NUJWbnb8wN1sN1yRG6l5llYoAYBhnQg9H4PhZpC5hAAHtEKUa3ZHkMd3/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150024.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhRjZmaaQW5KKxYFuDQnZB_0JIqvboHieO4aTy4fFy5Y6Qu2CHGvfSDkXkqKWokcm9WpQv6TiIiQ9PwudAt2Jc2NUJWbnb8wN1sN1yRG6l5llYoAYBhnQg9H4PhZpC5hAAHtEKUa3ZHkMd3/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150024.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
You can see in the picture that I cut extra material for seam allowance.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimIfarJZD3qkdl5dBs9Fy-y1LoAS4Vvi-gNFjwpnDWzaEBIGFvBYl4eUJtlKsBnv_cHhrc4rVX7xY5EshJ4nWk1cdsph4UdmrUhgGaAY8Q2Pt9sL12O8ueoNuntYvRFk-bCeuEvZ_-DZtx/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_150009.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEimIfarJZD3qkdl5dBs9Fy-y1LoAS4Vvi-gNFjwpnDWzaEBIGFvBYl4eUJtlKsBnv_cHhrc4rVX7xY5EshJ4nWk1cdsph4UdmrUhgGaAY8Q2Pt9sL12O8ueoNuntYvRFk-bCeuEvZ_-DZtx/s320/CYMERA_20151124_150009.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Once we cut the pieces I pin them with right sides together and make sure I sandwich the tail in between the two pieces. This part is a little tricky because of the thickness that I ended up with, it is doable tough and although I chose to sew it with the V shape I recommend sewing a straight line or a little curved because it bunched up a little for me where the tail meets the fin.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb2hMn0zsmfXJzbIhX7Gxb5YnVmq_r29YeqngVh9004XfGf4-8vMdxe14xT4kyf2rtKLSA-zvD7SAlG7xmJk0Iq9QbAYJ-HzLTQhEZslEiboglyyYP_wlIOnWqxI1YFTNmwKibE5e__-ps/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145948.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgb2hMn0zsmfXJzbIhX7Gxb5YnVmq_r29YeqngVh9004XfGf4-8vMdxe14xT4kyf2rtKLSA-zvD7SAlG7xmJk0Iq9QbAYJ-HzLTQhEZslEiboglyyYP_wlIOnWqxI1YFTNmwKibE5e__-ps/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145948.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Once you sew the entire tail together you are going to want to add a tube to it, it can be as tall or as short as you want it, it helps keep the tail in place and extra coziness (if that's a word). I have to admit that for this tube I did cut it the right way so it stretches the right way for my little one. I simply used the zizag stitch on my machine, the elastic stitch is better to help it be more flexible and avoid the thread from breaking with use.<br />
Just insert the tube with right sides together.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAaf380KRkXZQXGtoynNZA9oNqp7bHqZVtLHo_jh-_xoxNqSLNWXzlZ0JJgQ1cXltZv0dgFa0NsS8tZ_0c5aGRvjdeF7OGjy4GYvAA2G1X9JDgFeXuRrtSkpRwEaR_4J53B3FY92QICBE0/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145929.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgAaf380KRkXZQXGtoynNZA9oNqp7bHqZVtLHo_jh-_xoxNqSLNWXzlZ0JJgQ1cXltZv0dgFa0NsS8tZ_0c5aGRvjdeF7OGjy4GYvAA2G1X9JDgFeXuRrtSkpRwEaR_4J53B3FY92QICBE0/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145929.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-jXeyflLG3IlvboIe8X4iVBlU6-w9KizmRTxSBC8hIRRBxpRy0q3ItORgdJGWPwgRj1TjzRQ5Qr9JvVYg4A89yJ3T_uUgYBGWSZjg8QFfCdzc6iQuyHa76UO7jwBbfJ0IEDHB5zU-Tq0D/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145912.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj-jXeyflLG3IlvboIe8X4iVBlU6-w9KizmRTxSBC8hIRRBxpRy0q3ItORgdJGWPwgRj1TjzRQ5Qr9JvVYg4A89yJ3T_uUgYBGWSZjg8QFfCdzc6iQuyHa76UO7jwBbfJ0IEDHB5zU-Tq0D/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145912.jpg" width="240" /></a></div>
Once you are done sewing it together it should look like this.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnKkAltbrYVhVs1Ws4II249EYxOG68YWraEHoD9L6WQIJm_dxCSN1_1jNUADioeuQxtho3wa-8zjHd3LasRoqtZl2uGn_3jrS5-rq2oiQvlFwIydFt3C4sbNikAgbWEiN50m-A5LYvmBUh/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145851.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjnKkAltbrYVhVs1Ws4II249EYxOG68YWraEHoD9L6WQIJm_dxCSN1_1jNUADioeuQxtho3wa-8zjHd3LasRoqtZl2uGn_3jrS5-rq2oiQvlFwIydFt3C4sbNikAgbWEiN50m-A5LYvmBUh/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145851.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
And you are done, I didn't finish the top of the tube at all since it's just for playing around the house but you could finish it anyway you want.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUhpfKBDrzveCmTwmVw1UTTwhdoG_l-IY9yrC7_OsW3QHTddQVYNTNN7c2GXSbUDH1hkhyphenhyphenvxW7IbRuddjetm2ysMjCMbCcMzZuYIr3MBPqBWXN2zblSFPTDxQ0hP0Gdn29L5vU-eFR32-/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145835.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWUhpfKBDrzveCmTwmVw1UTTwhdoG_l-IY9yrC7_OsW3QHTddQVYNTNN7c2GXSbUDH1hkhyphenhyphenvxW7IbRuddjetm2ysMjCMbCcMzZuYIr3MBPqBWXN2zblSFPTDxQ0hP0Gdn29L5vU-eFR32-/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145835.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
A better look of the tail, you can see how much it bunches up at the tail but it's OK. My mistake helps you get a better finish look.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI7PrjmgwKXDq5V_AFceNJmD_0jG9nIXDucadqm5paKWcr173KmmyLM8O38hnnTbfZ0Qi3gMcrwhWLCPuznaRaHn2eFNW3nadPsctPMuLuGkbGaHbOKyEbjfE8OV1FeRJ0M06a8Mci5D-X/s1600/CYMERA_20151124_145820.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI7PrjmgwKXDq5V_AFceNJmD_0jG9nIXDucadqm5paKWcr173KmmyLM8O38hnnTbfZ0Qi3gMcrwhWLCPuznaRaHn2eFNW3nadPsctPMuLuGkbGaHbOKyEbjfE8OV1FeRJ0M06a8Mci5D-X/s320/CYMERA_20151124_145820.jpg" width="320" /></a> </div>
And here she is, super happy with her mermaid tail, not too shabby right?<br />
Now go on and enjoy making one for your little mermaid in your life. You could also make one for boys but instead of a mermaid tail you could do a shark or fish with teeth at the waist to make it look like it ate your kid.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
A perfect gift for Christmas if you ask me. <br />
PS, excuse the cellphone pics, I am having to go without Photoshop for now and can't edit my nice pics at all.<br />

I was so excited to be part of this test as the top/dress is darling. The pattern is called Jilly Cali Top/Dress which you can find <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/257306450/girl-blouse-pdf-girl-dress-pattern?ref=shop_home_active_12" target="_blank">here.</a><br />
The pattern is for sizes 2T to 6 and based on the measurements my little one got away with wearing a size 3T. She is tiny and it feels weird to have my almost 5 year old wear a size 3 but the fit is perfect.<br />
We are so happy with the end result that we have fabric picked out for the next one.<br />
I worked on a dress length and 3/4 sleeves. The construction of the garment was easy if you don't make mistakes like I did but it happens. The best thing for me about this pattern was how easy it was to put it together and the option of doing a French Seam, that's awesome if you have kids with sensory issues. It doesn't require a lot of fabric and you can add trim or lace to it to make a more sophisticated look. A lot of the pattern testers came up with awesome versions of it and of course they leave me wishing I had come up with their ideas but I can always follow their example.<br />
Please check out the rest of her patterns they are so cute and unique. It was an honor to work with this designer and looking forward to many more.<br />

It was my first time testing for her and I chose to try it because the top seemed so nice the flowy ( is that a word)....<br />
I was right of course, the top is very comfy and love the fact that I can wear it in the summer time and winter time with leggings (thick ones of course). The top was easy to sew, fast and the instructions were super clear.<br />
I used a nice light weight silky material and follow her instructions every step of the way, specially buying the right type of needles. Simply wonderful and well written pattern. The designer is from Australia so the measurements were a little different for me but it made me feel good to be in the O option lol. With PDF patterns of course you have to go by your measurements so you can get the best outcome. Check out her <a href="https://www.etsy.com/listing/244877990/candy-top-womens-pdf-sewing-pattern?ref=shop_home_active_1" target="_blank">page</a>.<br />

I am back now and have been doing some testing for some awesome designers. I just love pattern testing. I'm also planning on working on some patterns that I have had stored in my computer for a while and are begging to come out and play. So stay tuned for lots of posts to come.<br />
<br />
Let's start with the first pattern test from <a href="http://whimsycouturesewingpatterns.com/" target="_blank">Whimsy Couture</a>, this test was done back in March but I was working full time then and didn't get a chance to blog about it. The pattern was super easy to follow, it was the <a href="http://whimsycouturesewingpatterns.com/product/ladies-shirred-skirt" target="_blank">Ladies Shirred Skirt</a>. I am looking at her website right now and it seems she has dropped the prices really low right now so if you want to go and check out her website just click on the link above.<br />
<br />
I made the short version of the skirt and it was officially my first time shirring which made me really scared but this is why I love testing patterns, I learn new techniques and it makes me fee like a pro. It did take some trial and error before I was able to get the hang of it but the pictures and instructions help a lot. <br />
<br />
Here are the pictures of the skirt all done. My trusty 15 year old is always there to save the day for pictures of me.<br />

I really love the length of this skirt and how comfy it feels when I wear it. I will definetly be making more once summer gets here again next year!<br />

Ever since I found out that the USA had ready made patterns for people to sew up on their own I could not stop thinking about making myself my own clothes, but more on that at different time. I have tried several paper patterns thorough out the years and since discovering the world of PDF patterns my life has changed. I still use paper patterns but some times it is really hard to find one that will have the right fit. <br />
I was brave enough to be a tester for a lovely designer from <a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LoveNotionsPatterns" target="_blank">Love Notions Sewing Patterns</a> and it was very fun to do so, I don't regret trying it.<br />
She came up with a little girl's version of it a while back and it was a big hit so she came up with the ladies version of it. When I tested for her she had the ruffled option as View D and it was really easy to do. I am a little sad that the option is not there anymore but the new pattern will come with a simple color block option and that is OK too.<br />
This was a super top secret pattern since it is going to be part of the new <a href="http://bundleupsale.com/" target="_blank">Bundleup Sale</a> coming out this Friday, you can check out some details on their link.<br />
We were told today that we could share our pictures from the test so here are mine. I wanted to do a top for my 14 year old daughter but she is so picky about clothes and she said no.... but that's OK.<br />
Her patterns are awesome and I know that I mentioned it before but I truly love the fact that you can print the one size you are going to work on... it is a great ink saver and less confusing to cut and put together. I love wearing modest clothing and with this pattern although it's called the Ladies' Hip Hop Tank, it comes with the options of adding cap sleeves. The possibility are endless with the pattern, the fit is simply amazing and as soon as I was done sewing it up I tried it on and was ready to go. My daughter took pictures of me wearing it, I was so excited but am also very awkward when it comes to pictures so excuse the weird faces.<br />
Thank you again Tami for letting me test for you!!<br />

Years ago I found this necklace at a craft fair, it's from my country of Guatemala and I never felt I could wear it, that it until now. It is the perfect match for this top.<br />

The never ending story and seriously I don't know how other fellow bloggers do it, hands down ladies. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Lets get right down to business and talk about what I was up to last week.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I was so lucky to be picked as a tester by Tami from </span><a href="https://www.etsy.com/shop/LoveNotionsPatterns" target="_blank"><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">Love Notions Sewing Patterns </span></a><span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">. Needless to say it is always exciting to place your bid and wait to hear back from the awesome designers I test for, especially since the other contenders are simply super talented.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4M3n5h9rNyjgeYylPsjasFH4TmxkeJ3kU6D0K1pfUlvKfdIvx0_PW7H9gTd2phVdk65Zsr0J7VqrReMXWA-Xn80b-3t69Oz934tFBHANx7A78AtEGmHeojzyuKmvd-KcIDGkq3-r73Ezr/s1600/details.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4M3n5h9rNyjgeYylPsjasFH4TmxkeJ3kU6D0K1pfUlvKfdIvx0_PW7H9gTd2phVdk65Zsr0J7VqrReMXWA-Xn80b-3t69Oz934tFBHANx7A78AtEGmHeojzyuKmvd-KcIDGkq3-r73Ezr/s1600/details.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">This was a super quick sew for me. The entire process of printing, taping the pattern and cutting down the pattern which is honestly my least favorite part was done in minutes. I had already decided I was going to up cycle one of my most favorite old tops that had seen better days and an old T-shirt from my husband's donation pile.... yes I am thrifty so I make do with what I have at hand. The front of this dress was done with some left over fabric from another project a while back. </span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">I just love the end result, doesn't she look super adorable? She is learning that after I make a dress for her she needs to go outside for pictures... she loves the attention.</span><br />
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">My favorite thing about this pattern is how when you go and print it Tami gives you the option of ONLY picking your size, yes you read right, you can pick the one size you want to cut and it is done. It is an awesome feature that I had not seen before, I only test for a few designers but I really had not heard of anything like this before. This is the second time I test for her and it is truly my favorite thing in the world.</span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgww9BWXWAOdDPLZeFUZAqqJAocjI2g0bfn0WhaYyvn3BAq_QLqRs8RM-NFfQyGeamRQvk9sSVJA0hy4tI-7tIYc9xABp6OCztpK1xmzuP74WC6bAnIvGx71HaJP2GbWiUFYMnzjbJ4eVWQ/s1600/front.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgww9BWXWAOdDPLZeFUZAqqJAocjI2g0bfn0WhaYyvn3BAq_QLqRs8RM-NFfQyGeamRQvk9sSVJA0hy4tI-7tIYc9xABp6OCztpK1xmzuP74WC6bAnIvGx71HaJP2GbWiUFYMnzjbJ4eVWQ/s1600/front.jpg" height="320" width="206" /></a></div>
<span style="font-family: Verdana, sans-serif;">The dress comes with lots of different options for sleeves and the neck line, you can also choose to have a ruffled hem. I picked vie B with the little bib on the front and added a little button just for fun and cap sleeves.</span><br />

Of course I signed up right away since I knew it would be a hit around here, you probably didn't know this yet but we are pretty Renaissance Fair crazy around here and love all things related to knights, swords, dragons... you get the idea.<br />
Here is a pic of what I did for our last year's Halloween/Renaissance Fair costumes.<br />
And yes people I did all the outfits you see in this picture, my family was pretty happy with every single outfit and I was... well a tired mom by the end.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOTVwpMeArejuPOtln86lz6o5EefJuJrzZHJFNlaVObIsxrD8BFd3EZQKXM19ajFPmxLzTUF-nC_eOaIjMyOgnPFVI30RJrAL-1Q7QOzDBJp0PPfW6SJBO4Wrt1aCoj-gx87Tid8OAirWb/s1600/family.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjOTVwpMeArejuPOtln86lz6o5EefJuJrzZHJFNlaVObIsxrD8BFd3EZQKXM19ajFPmxLzTUF-nC_eOaIjMyOgnPFVI30RJrAL-1Q7QOzDBJp0PPfW6SJBO4Wrt1aCoj-gx87Tid8OAirWb/s1600/family.jpg" height="213" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
So as you can see this hoodie had to be done no matter what.<br />
I just want to say that I love easy to follow patterns and testing is a great way to help the designer figure out the little details or we get to suggest improvement which by the way is not that much, she is great and her pattern was just out of this world for me. I ma not saying this just because, I mean it. <br />
I had done a hoodie for my oldest previously and I had some left over sweatshirt material, it was great because I am all about saving money. I could not find the right color to match the gray sweatshirt material so I decided to use one of my husband's old sweatshirts and it was plenty to cover the main parts. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC9Juw21m60ns3fe95Sr6tEinocBwZLf4YOkdzIhbGSBILsS92grzHn52NMZZ8IwqAg4vsT6ufDpU_5JE0kGmHDYYES7JQulsCII5sS-JAJ6ts_-LatbTNYgUF597iuDKU2SS9KxtWJftr/s1600/CAM02033.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgC9Juw21m60ns3fe95Sr6tEinocBwZLf4YOkdzIhbGSBILsS92grzHn52NMZZ8IwqAg4vsT6ufDpU_5JE0kGmHDYYES7JQulsCII5sS-JAJ6ts_-LatbTNYgUF597iuDKU2SS9KxtWJftr/s1600/CAM02033.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQbpskFY_-Wo2bIoEjikRX0LKUGyrTw_W2xFRcLMppwVKgDKVAH9QnZOD8xK5lW0WtYMPGXW_81InhyphenhyphenDXvxK24pcT4snf_uFxSdiNbHUWQV01xyRxVYisc1Mr-ndbDOCb9nOCbTeyRJlbK/s1600/CAM02034.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiQbpskFY_-Wo2bIoEjikRX0LKUGyrTw_W2xFRcLMppwVKgDKVAH9QnZOD8xK5lW0WtYMPGXW_81InhyphenhyphenDXvxK24pcT4snf_uFxSdiNbHUWQV01xyRxVYisc1Mr-ndbDOCb9nOCbTeyRJlbK/s1600/CAM02034.jpg" height="240" width="320" /></a></div>
Over all I was happy with the results, this was my third attempt at up-cycling something and it turned out great and it was also funny to see the leftover piece of clothing after it had been cut into pieces. My son who is 7 was over the moon excited to try it on and take to school so his friends could see it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio0IaiR7pkbEycZujWQira_rkiBgmvaS2qllyF-YjEniG2QmxY2KCEWwoVh4NhxA7qsWeHALzxGANhBt7RIMz4wovRxEICwW4V7-GQdPzyUHVHzfx_oUUivD6XzuDRHOMAyWZ_uxccdcg-/s1600/hoodie1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEio0IaiR7pkbEycZujWQira_rkiBgmvaS2qllyF-YjEniG2QmxY2KCEWwoVh4NhxA7qsWeHALzxGANhBt7RIMz4wovRxEICwW4V7-GQdPzyUHVHzfx_oUUivD6XzuDRHOMAyWZ_uxccdcg-/s1600/hoodie1.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
The buttons are what gives the special details to this hoodie, I wanted it to look fancy without looking too girly and the contrast of the black and gray definitely helped me accomplish that. I am not an expert seamstress, I have been sewing for a long time but I still have lots to learn. I would say this pattern would be great for a beginner/medium sewer and will be able to follow the instructions with no problems. Plus the pattern comes with lots of picture to guide through the entire process. <br />

I had no time to print out some kind of pattern for the dragon so this was done freehand on the spot... not too bad for a last minute embellishment. Hurry over to her <a href="http://www.charmingdoodle.com/p/patterns.html" target="_blank">page</a> and get a special discount of $2.00 off with this special code CraftyCorner.<br />

A while back.... a very while back I was chosen to test another pattern for one of my favorite pattern designers out there <a href="http://www.thesewinggeek.com/" target="_blank">The Sewing Geek</a>. Time has not been so kind to me hence the late post on this review. <br />
I usually sew clothes for girls and every once in a while I till try something for my boys like ties, pajamas or things like that. When I saw that The Sewing Geek was going to come out with this pattern and I was super excited and got right to work looking through my stash of fabrics for something boy-ish enough to use. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPrsCjlTq-Zkg4i-SFy-32v_Re1ag4eFuAU5mkXlf6Aj-1Hct_LtrBcGd9JcFgd-gHw_8T6lCJ7wGu1gwyzXZuCo_7wxauWjoeCWrchoSBWDyi3OuBqT_-iIN5IllyDGVv-cI05ljnI_xk/s1600/comfy+shorts3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhPrsCjlTq-Zkg4i-SFy-32v_Re1ag4eFuAU5mkXlf6Aj-1Hct_LtrBcGd9JcFgd-gHw_8T6lCJ7wGu1gwyzXZuCo_7wxauWjoeCWrchoSBWDyi3OuBqT_-iIN5IllyDGVv-cI05ljnI_xk/s1600/comfy+shorts3.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
The best thing about <a href="http://www.thesewinggeek.com/sewing-geek-patterns/comfy-shorts/" target="_blank">this pattern</a> is that you have up to size 18 which is great because not many parents have that many options for sizes. Also it is a quick sew, it took me about 2 hours but if you are like me once you have done them you get quicker and better. <br />

<br />Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5187157773964410640.post-10184814992047825312013-12-28T07:56:00.000-08:002013-12-28T07:56:05.499-08:00Meet Sparkles!!Sparkles is a stick horse that was inspired by a FB page, I belong to so many groups on FB and there is a lot of creativity in there. A while back I noticed a lot of ladies making these beautiful stick horses and they just seemed to hard to make. I was tempted to buy the pattern but I love to save money as much as I can so came up with my own version of it. Trust me I am not a pattern designer or believe that I would ever be but my pattern is good enough for me and it is still a work in the process. My husband liked the horse so much that suggested I make them and try selling them at the craft fairs I attend. If my husband says they are good enough to sell then I must do it because he is a pretty hard guy to please lol, he is one of my biggest supporters but he is very picky. My daughter's reaction to getting the horse for Christmas was priceless so I know it is child approved!!<div>
The horse is in a testing period right now, I am trying to see how long it takes before it breaks apart, not that it is not good quality but I want to make sure it will last for a while. Plus she has 3 older brothers and they all love that horse too. I have seen them throw it, smack each other with it and gladly the horse is still smiling and his eyes are on. The reigns came off but they were not sewn onto the horse so I will have to come up with a different method to attache them and make them stay. <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Wl6OPyZoAH6TDlRs2OynZ9lrhWXLdSjmN1PtSK9nO_PbYvhuX-USzvbBASUa6DZnKjGpfSl3f_PPMHWUzGTvfb5HbRp705ARaToG8ISH7t6-Npf9zSgcnp_KXbEyY9bmmfwKpJIJmgAN/s1600/DSC_0001.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg4Wl6OPyZoAH6TDlRs2OynZ9lrhWXLdSjmN1PtSK9nO_PbYvhuX-USzvbBASUa6DZnKjGpfSl3f_PPMHWUzGTvfb5HbRp705ARaToG8ISH7t6-Npf9zSgcnp_KXbEyY9bmmfwKpJIJmgAN/s320/DSC_0001.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
His hair is made out of yarn and it looks fantastic thanks to my very smart 9 year old. He was really helpful while working on this project as I only had 2 hours from start to finish while the little one took a nap.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoryZIBbtkjw59CrowGa5z9yTV4m147CaIsSludNXjNzjK9SicjrC28YEaGMxOgFbcu782hYsWzcXfzPqduRT8nIm3Al8FFB7St5oXtvE5IXO2TuhNq1wqAqcM7ljQ4vyCWSG5jW3FH0kB/s1600/DSC_0002.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhoryZIBbtkjw59CrowGa5z9yTV4m147CaIsSludNXjNzjK9SicjrC28YEaGMxOgFbcu782hYsWzcXfzPqduRT8nIm3Al8FFB7St5oXtvE5IXO2TuhNq1wqAqcM7ljQ4vyCWSG5jW3FH0kB/s320/DSC_0002.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
I love the expression on his face, he looks so happy. I wanted the horse to have eyelashes because that is one of the things I love about horses, their beautiful and expressive big eyes. It gives the horse character. <br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Here is a better look at his hair.<br />

The hair int he front is a little longer that the one in the back, so stylish. What do you think?<br />

Every week I had a project I was working on, testing a pattern, being sick or taking care of sick people. Also we have most of our family birthdays in the last three months of the year and that definitely makes our lives a little crazier than usually.<br />
Now that the year is coming to a close I find myself thinking about what I want to do with this blog and how to go about it. I love creating things and posting pictures of them when I am done but I also know that a lot of people get sick of seeing them all over my FB. I decided that I probably wont post on there as much and will concentrate of writing on here and posting about my projects as I finish them and also as I work on them. I will post the links and if people are interested enough they will come see my blog.<br />
I have a few pictures to share and I will talk about what is coming soon.<br />
A friend of mine asked me if I could do a Superman cape for her husband and an owl messenger bag for her daughter. I have done capes in the past but for little kids and the messenger bag was just done after a seeing a pictures she shared with me that she took at our local Renaissance Festival so I didn't have much to work with but I am proud to say that I love the way it turned out.<br />
I am planning on doing a tutorial on how to make this cute bag and hopefully it wont take me 3 months to finish. In the mean time here are a few pics of it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXxHO_EC4CiyiQG8DL1egJiEh-Ga3oAdwQZaABTpgdAd8EQ3q7Sl558w5GvEukpEP0Th3Ju361Ey1ljeKSktauLxjWqAF08Hq12gNPXxdOboq5gBL4oznTZdKiUmR599j5zn50stXx_I2c/s1600/DSC_0026.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXxHO_EC4CiyiQG8DL1egJiEh-Ga3oAdwQZaABTpgdAd8EQ3q7Sl558w5GvEukpEP0Th3Ju361Ey1ljeKSktauLxjWqAF08Hq12gNPXxdOboq5gBL4oznTZdKiUmR599j5zn50stXx_I2c/s320/DSC_0026.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
I didn't use a pattern for this bag so this is all straight out of my head. The flap is where the face is and the feathers are made out of tons of little scraps of fabric. My daughter helped me coordinate the colors once I made finish making them all and I think she did a really good job, plus it was for her friend so she wanted it to be perfect.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCkRRKHxJp6c2Q5tm9tgdRFrlExSBPdFFl29xsQfUFyubgBu4Bze5kRZIDeiND-btCP_ufK5bM4xHbXsLikFNxwtpbVgqRUCRNaEyzQobSb9y7deHoCJrshP19Uyx_qPj3-kBVqkaBkoNu/s1600/DSC_0027.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgCkRRKHxJp6c2Q5tm9tgdRFrlExSBPdFFl29xsQfUFyubgBu4Bze5kRZIDeiND-btCP_ufK5bM4xHbXsLikFNxwtpbVgqRUCRNaEyzQobSb9y7deHoCJrshP19Uyx_qPj3-kBVqkaBkoNu/s320/DSC_0027.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
See how all the feathers and sewn together, rows of it. I am sure this bag will get perfected with time.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFiK5L23z91opdDDlVVNAIKM3jSe25a5lIs7UaQcRS47yiJcw4D43hpjOxQ-ZgyuctOLquuYpNW37xvQpcsuavcLlEWmIMRMY3YESDCMRRAR8pg28kX5LIpgY2Akt71K_lM-PWpSIFyMGZ/s1600/DSC_0028.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgFiK5L23z91opdDDlVVNAIKM3jSe25a5lIs7UaQcRS47yiJcw4D43hpjOxQ-ZgyuctOLquuYpNW37xvQpcsuavcLlEWmIMRMY3YESDCMRRAR8pg28kX5LIpgY2Akt71K_lM-PWpSIFyMGZ/s320/DSC_0028.JPG" width="213" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
And then here is the grown up cape I made for the same family.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
I used about a yard and a half of fabric and used felt for the logo which was attached my using the double sided Pellon Wonder Under. That stuff is amazing, I have been using it for years for all kinds of projects and I just don't know how you can get anything done without it. </div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

So my son is going to turn 7 in a couple of weeks and his birthday is pretty close to Halloween therefore I have the greatest excuse to throw a Halloween theme birthday party. We did it before a couple of years ago and I think it will be great for him to have another one. Since My Crafty Corner is all about crafts here goes my first tutorial. It was Pinterest inspired, to tell you the truth I have no clue what the pin was all about, all I saw was a couple of googly eyes and this card wrapped in cheese cloth that made it look like a mummy. After this tutorial I am going to go check it out to see if I am creative enough.<br />
<br />
First lets start by collecting our supplies. It should be very inexpensive if you have most of this things at home. I found Halloween stickers at Joan's for $1.00 which was really nice.<br />
<br />
Glue<br />
Stickers<br />
Scissors<br />
Cheese cloth<br />
Card stock... it doesn't need to be Halloween theme, that is what the stickers are for.<br />
Googly eyes<br />
Permanent marker<br />

Once you gather your items get to work and look happy while doing it because no craft is fun if you are not actually having fun right? <br />
I start by folding the square piece of card stock in half and attaching the googly eyes about an inch or two from the top. I left the white on the outside so it looks more like a mummy but it would work either way if you have a pattern on it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Then fill out the information on the inside, sorry for the messy picture but I didn't want my info out there so I blocked it using Photoshop and since I am a self taught person I don't know how to do it all fancy. This is the part where the stickers come in handy. Decorate the inside with as many stickers as you want or make it simple that is up to you!<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkisAoVhXAI2-BpqQGeKSTJzbPYwNZIwLONea68_sOy1cSDssdeJH3ntwLIeyXr2pBdFWuIiMI1w2G2bsCIL2k8sC6qbmpWwf9JveKz6NnyKPNo2EI_l4EjpNsqW_zGSLP9WIZ6Suqz1ER/s1600/creepy8.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkisAoVhXAI2-BpqQGeKSTJzbPYwNZIwLONea68_sOy1cSDssdeJH3ntwLIeyXr2pBdFWuIiMI1w2G2bsCIL2k8sC6qbmpWwf9JveKz6NnyKPNo2EI_l4EjpNsqW_zGSLP9WIZ6Suqz1ER/s1600/creepy8.jpg" width="320" /></a><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTqo3euskXbrVcnoXcCoCDpClc86VeG-dRxBp_XmeWtVmD_FuSJVSYpLxJRc5ewEMNymhBsMyLnrJBvVOBee0IgqiwwqiTPNRwl9NGN6TcjBd29thHlT9kQVBMJoZcsnPg_B-hjpFjgf6r/s1600/creepy5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiTqo3euskXbrVcnoXcCoCDpClc86VeG-dRxBp_XmeWtVmD_FuSJVSYpLxJRc5ewEMNymhBsMyLnrJBvVOBee0IgqiwwqiTPNRwl9NGN6TcjBd29thHlT9kQVBMJoZcsnPg_B-hjpFjgf6r/s1600/creepy5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
Then cut a long piece of cheese cloth about 3" wide and 36" long. Glue the end of it on the back corner of the card and start wrapping it around the entire card being careful not to cover the eyes, they need to pop out to look cute. You could use a sticker instead of the glue and it will work better if it's a clear sticker or white.<br />

<br />
Once you are done wrapping it use another sticker to set the end of the cheese cloth in place. I had thought about using a string and attaching a tag on it saying something like "unravel the mystery" or something like that but I am on a budget so I am keeping it simple.<br />

Now that you know how to do them go ahead and make a few or a hundred of them, they are so fun!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5187157773964410640.post-43980007927317422902013-09-19T10:57:00.003-07:002013-09-19T10:57:31.175-07:00Time for a Review!!This week I was lucky enough to test a Halloween Treat Bag for <a href="http://www.charmingdoodle.com/" target="_blank">Charming Doodle</a> and I have to say it was a fast and easy project. Of course having little kids around made it a little tricky but I managed to finish way ahead of schedule and get pictures done right after. My little KBoo was more than excited to give the treat bag a test drive and played with it for the rest of the day.<br />
The pattern itself is very easy to follow, simple instructions and pictures that will guide you through the entire process step by step. I was a getting way to excited as the bag was getting done because I really wanted to see what is going to look like, it didn't disappoint.<br />
I used purple felt to match the Princess Sophia inspired dress I made for my KBoo and tulle for decoration to go all around it, I added a couple of flowers to make the bag pop. Elisa sent me a personal message letting me know how much she liked the bag and dress as well :) <br />
There you have it, if you feel like getting crafty before Halloween head over to her blog or check out her <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/CharmingDoodle" target="_blank">Etsy Shop</a>.<br />

Cake stuff comes easy just because I learned how to do it when I was younger and did it for years for my mom. I do love both activities and they are both an outlet to my craftiness I guess.<br />
Funny thing is that I hated sewing when I was little, I would not pick up a needle if my life depended on it which was the case when I was in school and I almost failed Home Economics because of it...<br />
I always think back to when I was 19 years old and was working for our family business as the secretary, it was lunch time and I was reading the adds in the newspaper. They had a particular add that was showcasing these beautiful sewing machines that looked a lot like the old fashion Singer ones, the price was ridiculously low and I thought to myself that it would be a good idea to buy one. That same day I asked my mom for the money and promised to pay her back as soon as I got payed. My brother took me over the place where they were selling them, it was a huge storage place, the company went bankrupt and needed to get rid of their inventory ASAP. After what seemed like ages we got all the paperwork done and went home with a brand new sewing machine. When I say old fashion I mean it literally. It had the pedal on the bottom that you have to move with your feet so it can work, the faster you pedal the faster it will sew. I had never in my life used a sewing machine before and had no clue how to use it. Our neighbor next door was a seamstress and her husband was a tailor, she had done some dresses for me in the past and I asked her if she didn't mind teaching me how to thread the machine and how to make it work. The husband came over and gave me a 10 minute lesson, he said that was all he was going to teach me because he didn't want me to become their competition.. yeah right. But that is all it took. I spent hours mastering the art of sewing, it was pretty pathetic. My sewing machine came attached to a table so it was very convenient and it had lots of drawers. When I sat to sew and really get into it the table would move all over the place because we had granite floors and they are very slippery. My mom always made fun of me and said that it looked like I was going to take off any moment.<br />
I started sewing pillowcases, then I made my own bedding. Got about 7 yards of some nice flannel with the smilie faces all over it, it turned out really cute. My older brother liked it a lot and asked me to make one for him, then I made one for my mom and pretty soon some friends started to request some for them too.<br />
I tried selling some things but I never have luck with that and it went nowhere so I just did things for my family and friends for free. I was simply enjoying the experience and learning a lot.<br />
My best friend at the time who was 6 years younger than me had a sewing machine that was way better than mine. It was a Singer, it worked with electricity and that was a whole new world for me. She had the instruction book and I taught myself in a day how to make it work. We wanted to use the button hole attachment so bad that we used one of my favorite skirts as a pattern and got some cute fabric, cut the pieces and put it together. The button holes came out pretty nicely and the skirt actually didn't look so bad, from far away of course. I used to come and make use of her sewing machine as much as I could and really enjoyed it. When it was time for me to leave home one of the things that I really had a hard time leaving behind was my sewing machine. I was just getting started and I had to leave it for ever. After I got married I knew that buying a sewing machine was not going to be in the picture for a long time but I really missed it and one day Dan took me to a department store to buy a mini sewing machine. It was more like a toy sewing machine but I did a lot of things with it too. Later on while living in WV I had a friend who loved making quilts and sewing all kinds of things. One day she called me asking me to come help her translate a pattern she had bought at the store. She was making the baby blessing dress for her daughter. I had never seen a pattern before and I found it very interesting that they gave you step by step instructions on how to put it together, what pieces to cut, etc. I wasn't much help because I didn't understand how to read the pattern so she ended up getting help from somebody else but that day changed everything for me. My SIL had a sewing machine that she wasn't using so she let me have it for a while, a sister in the ward had some fabric scraps that she was going to throw away but thought I could use them to make a quilt, she even gave me a book on how to make a Log Cabin Quilt in a day.... everything landed on my lap so I just started working on it. I was pregnant with Victor when I started working on that quilt and finished it for Father's day and gave it to Dan as a present. I used a bed sheet as the backing, didn't spend one single penny and I was able to turn scraps into a quilt, funky looking but still a quilt. When Dan and I got our first credit card he took me to Walmart and bought me a real sewing machine, a Brother. With all kinds of stitches and attachments. I LOVED it! It wasn't until I started working at Hancock Fabrics that I decided to finally try my luck at buying a pattern. Got the fabric for a dress for Shayna and that's how everything started. We were going to go to the Renaissance Fair and I wanted her to look nice so I made her a dress. I liked it so much that I made one for me and then my friend asked me to make one for her too. They were not perfect at all but decent enough to wear them. Then I made a dress for my niece who was in a choir and then her friend asked me to make one for her and payed me for it, that was exciting.<br />
I had since then made my boys baby quilts, lots of dresses and all kinds of cute outfits for Shayna, Kahlan, Halloween costumes, dresses for me, outfits that were on display at Hancock Fabrics, backpacks, diaper bags, skirts for my friend, mended my friend's clothes, etc. etc. I am not the greatest seamstress on earth but I do enjoy sewing. Sadly my awesome Brother sewing machine died a couple of years ago when I let a friend use it. Lucky fur me my husband had bought me a heavy duty sewing machine (Necchi) back in Utah so I still had something to work with but all the fancy stitches that I was able to use before were gone. Last year I got my second Brother sewing machine, this one does fancier stitches and even does letters, I love it.<br />
So recently I decided to try something new. Since I love sewing so much and I always have some kind of project I am working on. I came up with some ideas and put some of my items on auctions. Some sell and some don't but a few of the people that buy them come back and request for more items. I am pretty excited about it and look forward to the auctions every week. Shayna helps me to come up with ideas for the mini quilts that I make, one of them sold a couple of weeks ago and they requested another one. I have been making lots of boy ties, reversible super hero capes, totes and chalkboard mats which seem to be a favorite to many. I hope I can keep doing this because it keeps me entertained and makes me feel like I an doing something in my spare time. I have the office half way set up with my sewing station and was recently given a desk and wall unit by a friend, I am using it to store my fabric that I have been collecting over the years and it feels like a nice working area. I am really enjoying this experience. I would love to find a way to get into a craft fair or something like that so I can go even bigger. For now I am just going to keep doing what I am doing and keep enjoying it. When it gets to be too much I can always take a break :)<br />
Something else that I have been playing with is "up cycling", I have been using old clothing to make Kahlan and even Shayna new clothes, I have turned shirts and socks into leggings, shirts into vests, men ties into boy ties. My next project is to turn some tops I got at Dollar General into dresses for Kahlan and I can't wait to see how they turn out. I have so many ideas in my head it is crazy. I have come a long ways since then and I still have lots to learn but yup, sewing is fun!<br />

<br />
So FB is great for a lot of things and one of them is finding people who love what you love. A friend of mine follows a page that give you the chance to test patterns for her before she puts them on the market. She always comes up with different ideas and needs testers for them. Every time I volunteer she already had 15+ people in line so never got a chance to do it until now. Last week she posted a picture of some cute PJ's and I noticed there only 4 comments so I took advantage of it and let her know I was interested in either size 2T or size 8 for boys. I got an email the next day with her e pattern and I was asked to work on size 2T for girls. I cut the fabric last night and finished sewing it this afternoon. The pattern is pretty easy and not hard to follow. The one thing that I know would have helped is having a serger, knit material is kind of hard to work with on a regular sewing machine, not impossible but a little hard at time. And here is our little model, the cost to me $1.00 only because I already had the material except for the ribbing. I have to say that I learned a new technique with this pattern and I like it. Also I used my double needle to sew almost the entire thing and do the top stitching. I love it.<br />

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VRcuFlMPVuSdSUVtOQ6do4yntpWtrrH53L7_4rQMj7Na7Me_Ii0J9vAjxB58GUEu9lRdwmmQ28jPDXTTM4y6kJtifIpYQfO2I_ew1diOqn-5dCMfCTn8L85O-hzLWzGbtZz7tFuXsX8N/s1600/DSC_0205.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi0VRcuFlMPVuSdSUVtOQ6do4yntpWtrrH53L7_4rQMj7Na7Me_Ii0J9vAjxB58GUEu9lRdwmmQ28jPDXTTM4y6kJtifIpYQfO2I_ew1diOqn-5dCMfCTn8L85O-hzLWzGbtZz7tFuXsX8N/s320/DSC_0205.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
Once again I was given the opportunity to test a pattern for the same company and it was really cool because I love making dress coats for Shayna so having a dress coat for Kahlan was very important to me, they don't get to use them a lot in Texas I guess but they do need them when it gets cold on Sundays. I had a hard time looking for the fabric for this one, it took me almost an hour to decide. In the end it turned out really cute and she liked my pictures too so she used them for the official <a href="http://www.peekaboopatternshop.com/product/victoria-fur-trim-dress-coat-3-mos-8-years-18-doll" target="_blank">pattern release</a> (just look through all 5 pics), <a href="http://www.peekaboopatternshop.com/product/victoria-fur-trim-hat-muff" target="_blank">here</a> is the other one.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibk0HvqWEyP0J40sGPx2msjZluPQ5NuSZOIx-eSlCm6QjpQ7R3MPG5tTYQEjyyyefV_yWTGVU7YFgMeC70m9YosVxYD0RE7X40b8yjxVidq-Rh4p_9R-IyINBb2JWdEKjahcqnIdU6m_KC/s1600/2ttres.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEibk0HvqWEyP0J40sGPx2msjZluPQ5NuSZOIx-eSlCm6QjpQ7R3MPG5tTYQEjyyyefV_yWTGVU7YFgMeC70m9YosVxYD0RE7X40b8yjxVidq-Rh4p_9R-IyINBb2JWdEKjahcqnIdU6m_KC/s320/2ttres.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
There are two patterns, one for the dress coat and one for the hat and muff. I did one for a doll too and that one was tricky but with a few adjustments which I got to advice the lady to make to the pattern it is just perfect now.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtB9hC97CXNAucnOXvIaXJj34RFvoGL5wJC3k-yVZNa88E_kp90z4UqMSMGCr8NbKP6-EqqLuLVP_fDcaPeuxIO6H6i2mlNQhIyZFHivTKaCkNGxO6wJVxBRL37Jd_U9hacdMqieV3WCE7/s1600/2Tuno.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhtB9hC97CXNAucnOXvIaXJj34RFvoGL5wJC3k-yVZNa88E_kp90z4UqMSMGCr8NbKP6-EqqLuLVP_fDcaPeuxIO6H6i2mlNQhIyZFHivTKaCkNGxO6wJVxBRL37Jd_U9hacdMqieV3WCE7/s320/2Tuno.jpg" height="320" width="213" /></a></div>
This is the pic that made it into the pattern release and here is the pic of the doll. I took Kahlan to the Old Humble town park that's really cute for pics. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjWmgsQziD7wu2CK3fOVr2OBawPpqiSAwmBBy4-Q1JKafSHD0XJX0nXVLNeNmFZN-Uko6Cl6FDifsUL22_dLRFeXeaxKNoapFs8LhTO5_p1QHdQ6hx2E0RhgNmpe217BzaaIM9iLZ3837/s1600/DSC_0217.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: center;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOjWmgsQziD7wu2CK3fOVr2OBawPpqiSAwmBBy4-Q1JKafSHD0XJX0nXVLNeNmFZN-Uko6Cl6FDifsUL22_dLRFeXeaxKNoapFs8LhTO5_p1QHdQ6hx2E0RhgNmpe217BzaaIM9iLZ3837/s320/DSC_0217.JPG" height="320" width="213" /></a><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

Last week I got to test another pattern, this one was for a nightgown and I think it's the first time I see something that was good enough for Shayna, I was lucky to get it and she even used this pic for the pattern release. It makes me so happy to see my work on an official website.<br />

Since she is in Utah and I kind of fit into it (I made it too small for her) then I took the opportunity to buy the last piece of the puzzle which consisted of a long zipper and finished it for me. I think it turned out really cute and it is a little loose on me so she can probably wear it next time she comes back.<br />
The girls looked so cute in their outfits and they also turned out really well. I went with what is hot right now which is the lace fabric, Shayna loved it and wants me to make more for her. Of course it was super cheap to finish this outfit since I had half of the material already at home and only bought two yards of lace fabric on sale for half off, coming down to only $5.00 for both. I also made the hair pieces which complemented their outfits really well.<br />
I love my girls!!! Also so glad to be able to keep my tradition of making Easter dressed every year, well mostly since Shayna was like 4.... I only skip it if I am too pregnant and tired or if I find a good deal at the stores for a nice dress.<br />

I love how I get to relax when I do it and it gives me some sense of accomplishment. Our little nephew Miles was born this month and we got to meet him a couple of weeks ago. I was so happy to hear that both baby and mom were doing great and as soon as we heard the news I started to work on a quilt for him. I was waiting so long because they didn't have a name for him yet and I wanted to embroider his initials on it.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

It turned out really cute I think. It is meant to be a quilt to will last for a long time, to put on the floor and be dragged around, it is a boy anyways. I think they liked it.<br />

Another project I worked on recently is this cute little dress for Kahlan, I tested another pattern for a different lady (this was my second time). She like the pictures so much and the actual dress that she asked for my permission to use them on her blog and Facebook page. I feel honored to be asked for my permission, she asked that I put a watermark on them and then to send them back. I felt a little weird doing the watermark since I am not a profession photographer but I did it anyways. Doesn't my princess look beautiful???<br />

I was so excited to do it because I have had this patter in my collection for a long time and wanted to use it but never got around to do it. Long story short, after working on it for about 2 or 3 months, it took that long only because things kept getting in the way but it was finally finished. I sent it out on a Friday and she got it the next Monday. They called me all excited to let me know that it was perfect, right size, length and everything.<br />
Now can I just say that holy cow pioneer clothing is so incredibly expensive.... I visited a few websites to see what the best style for the fabric would be, what not to do and to stay as real to the pioneer thing as possible. I found a site that did just one dress for $150.00.... crazy!!!<br />
I ended up doing one dress, an apron, a bonnet, bloomers, one skirt and one top. I am really happy with how they turned out but mostly happy that they liked it so much. Shayna was my model for the outfits because I really wanted to see what they looked like on somebody once they were gone. Since Savannah is way taller than Shayna we sued a stool for her for the pics....<br />
This was a very exciting project to work on.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4GIBJdk81RgcWOl2wjGhpIFC06hDEIbrz5hd3Qov-50IQMjLHH5OEp8PFYjxxPxkylFzUQJI4vKCTVOgk0WsX800Zqwmd2MWMmTqHXhJ44dM5ZsZOWZEz4enfmSd3owImarg67XcLpr23/s1600/DSC00361.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi4GIBJdk81RgcWOl2wjGhpIFC06hDEIbrz5hd3Qov-50IQMjLHH5OEp8PFYjxxPxkylFzUQJI4vKCTVOgk0WsX800Zqwmd2MWMmTqHXhJ44dM5ZsZOWZEz4enfmSd3owImarg67XcLpr23/s1600/DSC00361.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
So the pattern for the bloomers was kind of funny.... I tried to find something that was as close as what they actually wore back then but they hand an opening in the back, I ended up twiking the pattern some and closing up the back but I had to used an elastic waistband instead which makes it a little bit bulky in the end but it solves the problem of having a giant opening back there...<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijqkPqE4H7Zihd_g_vkm9SmjJfou-PMX8-THbvrPgIOO656VTv2zXVA8vt1FfWcgdWwLwj3Ue8ohBfvCYwwxdgx3PqOhJ577SXFIXeD8HXJSogMPJvP_jZ95Nx7_6g2oHCM4OTOHZAGkZO/s1600/DSC00363.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEijqkPqE4H7Zihd_g_vkm9SmjJfou-PMX8-THbvrPgIOO656VTv2zXVA8vt1FfWcgdWwLwj3Ue8ohBfvCYwwxdgx3PqOhJ577SXFIXeD8HXJSogMPJvP_jZ95Nx7_6g2oHCM4OTOHZAGkZO/s1600/DSC00363.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is the top and skirt, they were not pioneer patterns but I found some cute patterns on sale and I adjust the skirt one so it would have enough fabric to have that look and the top was perfect with the short sleeves. I am sure they didn't use the short sleeve that much but Tashia thought it wold be better since it gets really hot and I have seen some of the trek kids wearing short sleeves too.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJZAzuIdsrPc8f2-b5LyKqRd4mL_Np9dLd0w10BgmiQPsK-P3Ls46cBtuDUYSkX2SuS-pWxrD7DxzZUicZ99GUSQZtSwzkZnFqkglC4MPDmjoPOpyyUV2MJCYGzdzW9JXB9Lvc9vReXo12/s1600/DSC00364.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJZAzuIdsrPc8f2-b5LyKqRd4mL_Np9dLd0w10BgmiQPsK-P3Ls46cBtuDUYSkX2SuS-pWxrD7DxzZUicZ99GUSQZtSwzkZnFqkglC4MPDmjoPOpyyUV2MJCYGzdzW9JXB9Lvc9vReXo12/s1600/DSC00364.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
Here is the outfit all together with the apron and bonnet.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSw6DYQghixi4bj0JsQIaY39tSE7OGYSPsLGjlKCoucUhOcBubIZBgpWaHlO74HYJOgKzF8H29rXNVVKX_hDLTXB91I9xjFyfpntL-5pr7vV4ctv5fxj6OXijyEnDHLqjokdZK4iAJyD6M/s1600/DSC00369.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhSw6DYQghixi4bj0JsQIaY39tSE7OGYSPsLGjlKCoucUhOcBubIZBgpWaHlO74HYJOgKzF8H29rXNVVKX_hDLTXB91I9xjFyfpntL-5pr7vV4ctv5fxj6OXijyEnDHLqjokdZK4iAJyD6M/s1600/DSC00369.JPG" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
And last but not least my favorite item, the dress. It was so cute. Apparently the pattern I had was used and it was old so when they cut it it was for a size 8 and I needed something smaller, again some adjusting had to be done but I had her measurements and just kept going back to them often. The collar was not even matching the neckline so I had to create a new pattern piece for it and that was a new experience for me. I was about to give up and go buy a new pattern but I made it work. The bonnet is awesome.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

I added a couple of buttons to the top to make it look cuter :)<br />
